Something that you probably don’t know about me, because I’ve never written about it on this website, is that I’m a big World of Warcraft player. I’ve been playing the game since I was fifteen, starting just after the release of Wrath of The Lich King and I thought now would be a good a time as any to start writing about it.
‘Cause I’ve got a lot to say.
One of my favourite things to do in the game, and I say this honestly, is level up new characters. I’m not talking about spamming dungeons, either. I love taking different questing roots through different zones, being able to explore and experience the world that has, admittedly, changed a lot since I started playing.
So, I bring you this whimsical series of articles that I’ve lovingly titled Zoned Out In.
What does the name mean? I hear you ask. Well, it’s pretty simple.
Each article is going to focus on a different zone in World of Warcraft. I want to share with you my experiences whilst giving my favourite zones a closer look.
A big catalyst for this series is that fact that I finally have a machine that can run the game at reasonable settings, so I can take pretty screenshots.
See? pretty screenshots.
I want to try and cover as much as I can about each zone; the terrain, my memories, the music, memorable quests and npcs, the zone’s lore, the whole lot.
Each article will include a bunch of screenshots from our visit, both from the ground and from above. I’ll even embed the zone’s soundtrack for maximum immersion.
You might be wondering how we’re going to visit all these different zones.
This is Velaaru, a Draenei paladin who is taking a much-needed break from being a hero-extraordinaire to be our guide for most of our excursions.
[Disclaimer: he may have to pop off and fight back the Burning Legion for a little while soon.]
Although these articles will likely end up being more personal gushing than comprehensive lore guides, I hope you’ll enjoy reading about my Azerothian (and beyond!) world tour as much as I’m going to enjoy writing about it.
The first instalment is already in progress, so it would be cruel to not tease it a little…
You guessed it, for our first adventure we’ll be heading out to the tropical jungle of Stranglethorn Vale. Grab your hats, slap on some insect repellent and I’ll meet you there for Zoned Out In: Stranglethorn Vale.
Watch out for the raptors.
